The Adventure - المغامرة

$825.00

This one-of-a-kind film from director Mohamad Shahin, working on behalf of the Syrian General Establishment for Cinema, represents the peak of the Syrian experimental film movement. Inspired by Pier Pasolini's Trilogy of Life, the film stars Ighraa, Osama El-Romany, Hani El-Romany, Salwa Said, and Mona Wassef in a story of one young guard's journey amid a struggle between the Caliph and the Vizier. It's a hypnotic adventure that blends history, philosophy, fantasy, and visual poetry to create an experience that deconstructs cinematic norms of the era.

Artist Shirami takes inspiration from Soviet and Eastern European posters of the time. Ighraa is nude against a vivid mustard yellow background, with only a swirling cape to provide an element of modesty; she's threatened by a symbolic arrow and tears of blood. Lovers embrace behind her and a small image of a caravan hints at the epic journey of the story. The nude image is striking and very unusual for an Arab market poster. This is a unique collectible that promotes with rare daring a film that is under-discovered for its time.
