In this adaptation of an Andre Gide story, an imprisoned activist is released and returns home, only to immediately become the center of emotional turmoil among his family when he butts heads with his controlling brother. His incarceration broke part of his spirit, but he finds new enthusiasm in his nephew and the girl he loves, played by Lebanese singer Majida El-Roumy. This is regarded as one of director Youssef Chahine's most important films but also one of his most pessimistic, as he confronted through allegory his own mixed feelings about the political scene at the time.
This poster is highlighted by the colorful image of Majida gazing out happily, surrounded by the monochrome portraits of the supporting cast, including Shukry Sarhan, Soheir El-Morshedi, Hoda Sultan, Mahmoud El-Meliguy and Hisham Selim. This poster is a Who's Who of some of the most famous and beloved names from Egyptian cinema of the era.
