Mister Karate - مستر كاراتيه

$150.00

Legendary actor Ahmed Zaki burnishes his reputation as the voice of Egypt's youthful generation in this look at life on the fringes in Cairo. Zaki portrays Salah, a man who comes to Cairo looking for a better life, but who finds the big city a depressing struggle. He meets a local karate instructor (Ibrahim Nasr) and a lovely video store clerk (the beautiful Nahla Salama, in her most famous role), and discovers martial arts as a means to escape the emptiness and despair of his life. This film is directed by pivotal filmmaker Mohamed Khan.

This poster is designed by the artist Anis, who builds the imagery around Zaki's irresistible star magnetism. Pictured in his humble work clothes, Zaki is at rest after a match, seemingly at peace finally with the life he has found in Cairo. The dark background and somber atmosphere showcase this film as a serious examination of issues facing Egyptian youth, rather than the lighthearted sports film many presumed it to be.
