Syrian actors Jamal Suleiman, Bassam Kousa, Jiana Eid, Salma El-Masry, Sabah Barakat, and Ghassan Masoud star in this film adapted from Ghassan Kanafani's novel Return to Haifa. The story chronicles the Nakba of 1948 in Palestine, through the story of an infant whose parents are killed. The child is taken in by a settler family, however his grandfather never stops trying to bring him back. Iranian director Saif Allah Dad directed this Syrian-Iranian co-production that went on to win four international film awards.
The center illustration of the crying child, reaching toward an outstretched hand, is striking. Jamal Suleiman, Ghassan Masoud, and Salma El-Masry look on dramatically from photographs, and an image from the film of the escape from Haifa frames the bottom. The imagery is emotional and eye-catching in a way that is truly unique, and the film's prominence adds to its collectibility.
