Kafr Kassem - كفر قاسم

Based on true events, Israel unexpectedly declares martial law on the eve of the 1956 attack on Egypt. Unaware villagers returning home to Kafr Kassem are slaughtered in a notorious event known afterward to Palestinians as “The Massacre at Kafr Kassem.” The film reconstructs the crime, and also explores the lives of the villagers before they were killed. This Syrian-Lebanese co-production is the debut film from director Borhane Alaouié and stars Zeina Hanna, Salim Sabry, Abdulrahman Al Rashi, Charlotte Rushdy, Abdallah Abbasy, and Ahmed Ayoub.

The poster shows two striking black & white images from the film: a group of villagers killed while riding their bicycles, and a burning building surrounded by dead villagers, with graffiti on a wall that says “We live and die on our land.” The crimson framing symbolizes the bloodshed and brutality, and the title is rendered in a unique style. A quote beneath reads “A village that tells the story of a nation.”
